The 30th Annual Meeting of Somers Exempt Volunteer Fireman's Benevolent Association, Inc. Monday, March 24th, 2008 ATTENDANCE: ALL TRUSTEES MEETING CALLED TO ORDER AT 7:06PM By Trustee Claire McLean, the fire exits were pointed out. Trustee Friedman led everyone in the pledge of allegiance followed by a moment of silence. President George Lux Jr. welcomed members, past Trustees John FitzGerald, Graham Leftwich and Michael Amato. Attorney Michael Vartabedian, Financial planner Michael MacInaw and accountant Steve Weinstein were recognized but not present. Out of towners were recognized along with our long time members all of which were sitting at one table hiding in the corner. Trustee George Wahlers proceeded to read inscription on the ceremonial bell. The following departed members were recognized: President George Lux, Jr. reminded members to keep Trustees informed of any member's good and welfare issues, notify Trustees of and address changes, beneficiary changes and to pay your dues. Help is dispensed on a case by case need and the member in need must contact a Trustee. President Lux informed the members that the benevolent will continue the spousal death benifit and other benifits after a member passes away. Members are encouraged to seek help if needed from our financial advisor. Trustee Friedman read the minutes of last year's annual meeting. Motion was made by Scott Alit to accept the minutes as read, seconded by Robert Lux and all were in favor. Trustee John Wahlers gave treasurers report. Year started with $550,021.00, Income was $138,061.00, expenses were $67,086.00 and our total assets at year end are $621,536.00. Motion made by Robert Lux to accept the report, seconded by Jhon Chrysogelos and all were in favor. Old Business: No old business New Business: No new business Trustee Friedman gave membership report; 181 current members, with nine new members. New members to be voted on are as follows: Raymond Baker, Stephen D'Angelone, Raymond Carile, Jeffrey Hopper, Steven Sterman, Laurie Guarino, Daniel Pond, Jonathan Mackey and Abdrew Pakstas-Smith for a new total of 190 members. Motion was made by Robert Totten and seconded by John Bernal to cast one ballot in favor of accepting all new members, all were in favor. Good and Welfare: Mike Coughlins new baby girl was welcomed. Election results -Trustee J. Wahlers thanked Bob Madsen and Noreen Morris for their help. Bob Madsen read election results which were: Invalid - 3, Mike Amato - 1, Sy Weinstein - 1, Steve Sutter - 1, Dan Moran - 1, Rich Radi Jr. - 2, John Markowitz - 1, George Lux - 1, John Fitzgerald - 2 and George Wahlers - 86, George Wahlers was re-elected. With no further business to come before the board a motion to adjourn was made, seconded and all were in favor. Meeting adjourned 7:29pm. |
