George Lux Sr. will be honored at the 97th Annual Convention of the Westchester County VFA at Croton's new Harmon Fire House on September 19th. He will receive his 25 Year Membership Certificate. It will be presented by the Association's President, Mike Devittorio, and Somers' own, Secretary Bob Ruston. The "Red Hat." Some fire organizations have what is called a "Red Hat." At the end of meetings, a "Red Hat" is passed around for collection of donations for the purpose of paying dues on behalf of indigent, missing, ill, injured, or afflicted members not capable of paying their dues. Wouldn't this be a good idea for the Somers Benevolent? Instead of throwing members out for nonpayment of dues as suggested in our By-Laws, we can keep members on the active rolls until such time we can determine what has really happened to them, locate them, or really find out if they truly wish to be dropped from membership, as the case may be. Please consider this at the forthcoming meeting. It's simple. It keeps us together as the fraternal and benevolent organization we're truly supposed to be, and keeps us from dropping members at the "drop of the hat" when we can get a hold of them. To me, this makes good sense, is easily accomplished, and keeps us together as "one." Bob Ruston |
